We’ve met with Jodie from the Motivated Savages Indie Bookstore and we’ve got news!
When it comes to indie books, it’s hard to get a visible spot in a bookstore. In fact, there are so many books being published every year that it sometimes feels like an impossible challenge as an independent author.
Ultimately, there are approximately between 2.2 and 4 million new book titles being published every year around the world. Out of these, the traditional publishing heavily promotes a few selected titles, which leaves indie authors often shouting into the void.
For reference, over 2 million books are self-published every year in the United States only. Other markets are also significant, but none is as large as the US market. This means that there are comparatively more independent authors than there are traditionally published and represented authors.
So, that is why we are so proud to have been chosen to feature among the online selection of Motivated Savages Indie Bookstore.

What Is Motivated Savages Indie Bookstore?
Motivated Savages is the indie bookstore initiative launched single-handedly by Jodie Savage. Jodie is a storyteller and story lover, combining writing with the creation of book merchandise and, more recently, the launch of the indie bookstore, Motivated Savages.
Motivation is naturally her driving force, as it is for every independent creative. We all have a story to tell, and some of us more than one. Jodie gives these stories a carefully selected spot in her curated bookstore.

The Dead Shadow in the Indie Author Bookstore
Motivated Savages Indie Bookstore counts currently over 300 titles, and we are so grateful to be one of these.
For US shoppers who want to support independent storytellers, this is a fantastic opportunity to browse indie titles that have been specially chosen for their narrative quality.
If you love an easy read with a YA-friendly magical fantasy filled with Pratchett vibes and neurodivergent-coded characters, The Dead Shadow awaits in the YA section of the online indie bookstore.
There are, however, many other books for you to choose as well, both in the YA section and in all other sections.

What Does It Mean To Be Part of An Indie Bookstore?
Of course, every author wants to feature on the most visible shelves in physical bookstores like Barnes and Noble in the US or Waterstones in the UK. This would be, for us, the next step in our author adventure. The Dead Shadow can also be bought through all the websites of countless bookshops.
But physical shelves are another kettle of fish.
The Motivated Savages Indie Bookstore may not have a physical location, but Jodie curates a selection of stories that reflect her love for the independent creative community. As such, for us, being part of this constantly growing list of chosen books is a meaningful milestone. Being chosen is a rare and precious feeling for an independent author. It means someone not only wants to read your story, but, in the case of Jodie’s bookstore, also wants others to read it.
This is most definitely something worth shouting about, right?
We certainly hope it is because that is precisely what we are doing right now: SHOUTING ABOUT IT to let everybody know.

How Can You Be Sure A Book Bought from Motivated Savaged Indie BookStore Will Reach You?
Jodie doesn’t host the books physically. She has created a list of the independent stories she is happy to promote and share. When you click on the link to buy The Dead Shadow from the bookstore, it directs you to the next marketplace in charge of sending the book ASAP across the United States, aka Amazon.
Should indie authors try to avoid Amazon? This is a question for another day, and one that requires too much budget to tackle efficiently at this stage of our journey. Logistically, Amazon remains the fastest and easiest way to ensure our lovely American readers can receive the copy safely.

However, we want to mention that The Dead Shadow is distributed by Amazon (and Barnes and Noble) in the USA, but it is printed by our lovely, independent, small-scale publisher in Cambridge, UK. In other words, we use Amazon for distribution purposes only, not for publishing, which enables us to remain in control of our book.
Anyway, we hope you can support Jodie’s dedication to indie storytelling by browsing and sharing her wonderful Motivated Savages Indie Bookstore further.
