Author Photos – But Make it Fun – October

Who doesn’t love author photos? Here’s a hint: That would be pretty much every single author. We’ve all got very good reasons for it :

  • They are awkward (seriously, though)
  • They are clichéd and revolved around a handful of poses only
  • They are as much a true representation of the author as passport photos are (in other words: NOT AT ALL)
  • They are boring (What do you mean I can’t wear a fancy T-rex costume with neon green flashing arms?)
  • They make us feel self-conscious (when all we wanted what to write a cool story)
  • They are probably the last thing every book reader might check, if they ever check it
  • They do not capture who we are at heart

So, we decided to have some fun with the author photos. Of course, none of these will ever end up printed on the inside cover of a book (we hope so, at least), but they are true to who we are.

Here’s a little anecdote you didn’t ask for but are getting anyway (don’t thank me, it’s for my own entertainment). Every Christmas and New Year, when we have time, we make our own seasonal photoshoot. One year, we posed as Christmas present and Christmas tree. Another year, we appeared as a pair of Jedis. My family is still wondering why we sent them a film poster of yet another Star Wars episode. They still have not recognised any of us on the photo. I have to say I made a very unconvincing Alec Guinness, yet the confusion remains to this day. Paul was a lot more credible as Luke.

And this chaotic burst of random creative silliness, this is precisely who we are. So, we thought we’d use the excuse of the author photos to give you a little unguided tour of our minds.

Here’s the October summary. Spoiler alert: We found a giant cardboard box and defended relentlessly from the cats, until finally they managed to claim ownership after a long month of epic photos. This is the end of the cardboard box. RIP carton. You’ve seen more acrobatic bottoms, clumsy feets, and sharp claws than all the other cartons together. May you be reincarnated into something much more relaxing, like a cute little pebble by a pond.

Hopefully, this gives you a little overview of what our minds were at during October!
