It’s been a few busy and stressful weeks with the whole ARCs thing. But this is a story for another day! In the meantime, we got an email from our publisher telling us we may be invited to a podcast about The Dead Shadow.
Admittedly, as with most things, there are still a few elements to clarify, so we may or may not join a podcast about The Dead Shadow. But just thinking about the possibility of it feels like preparing for a secret exam!
What Kind of Podcast About The Dead Shadow?
We can’t say a lot about it upfront, especially if it ends up not happening. But we can certainly tell you more about which type of podcast about The Dead Shadow would be right.
While The Dead Shadow is a YA fantasy book, we definitely don’t believe it is a story for young readers only. Naturally, this will depend on your understanding of the young adult demographic. But a lot of adults read those stories. Not so much because they can’t possibly interact with stories for their age groups, but because there is specifically something missing in the stories written for adults. YA readers are often nerds who are still trying to figure out who they are.
So, we were really excited to hear that the podcast about The Dead Shadow would be held by a team of geeks. Don’t misunderstand me. However, trendy it is nowadays to pretend to be geeky or nerdy, there is definitely something about the real ones.
We all know a nerd somehow. It’s the person who’s passionate about something nobody else seems to care about, the person who has watched or read their favourite story so often that they can quote entire passages from it without any mistakes, the friend whom you dread asking about their latest hobby for fear of having them talking at you for the rest of the day, the socially awkward colleague who never fully fits it and doesn’t even seem to notice anymore…
The nerd, that’s also someone like Paul and myself. So, of course, talking to fellow nerds about the book would be amazing because it was written for them, too.
That being said, if this podcast somehow doesn’t happen, you’ll know what kind of podcast about The Dead Shadow you should recommend to us!

How To Prepare For a Podcast About The Dead Shadow
I wish I knew!
Paul is more experienced with talking to people, as he does it in his everyday job. As for me, I’ve been self-employed for years now. Being asked questions by strangers feels pretty much like a really stressful job interview.
The moment someone asks me a question, my mind goes blank. So, I might have to do a few practice rounds of questions for the podcast about The Dead Shadow! I’ve got so much to talk about; I don’t want to miss the chance to say it all!
Another thing that’s been worrying me about the potential of a podcast is my default way of speaking. When I’m nervous, I speak in the most awkward way possible. When I relax, I swear. There’s literally no winning! As it would be a podcast about The Dead Shadow run by geeks for an adult audience, I’m assuming that it would be fine. But still, I can’t imagine our publisher promoting a programme where I’m punctuating my sentences with fuck, piss, wank, shit. Doesn’t sound very authory from me!

The plan would be to let Paul do the talking… He can certainly connect way more to the general public when he speaks. I still struggle to make myself relatable at times!
When is The Podcast About The Dead Shadow Planned?
If it happened, we’ve been told it would be recorded at some point in June, and it would be made available in August.
This would be ideal as it would be around the time The Dead Shadow hit the bookshelves. So, of course, it’d be perfect timing!
But if it happens, we will let you know more about it. Don’t worry about it.
If it doesn’t happen, we’ll be hitting the road again looking for the next podcast opportunity! Feel free to send your suggestions too!
