The shaman is forever a mysterious figure. His knowledge challenges today’s understanding of magic even though he is no magician himself. Being a witness to Helena’s Shadow ceremony changed his life forever.
Pamphilos is not nicknamed the healer of Shadows for no reason. In his role as a shaman, he has accumulated a breath of magical knowledge that people can only dream of. One thing we know for sure is that Pamphilos has dedicated his entire adult life to learning everything he could about magic and the magical world. There is no one like him, and this makes him the go-to person for all magical troubles. The combination of his naturally charismatic personality and his encyclopedic understanding of magic makes him a magnetic leader for those who join his cause.
Pamphilos may seem nice at first, but he is also driven by a sense of purpose. He is ready to help others as long as he believes he can gain something in return.
He met Twig during his early voyages and adopted the owlet, that’s now turned into a large and grumpy owl.
His ability to understand magic better than magicians has given him a free pass to all magical Lands. Wherever he goes, he makes allies. He chooses carefully those whom he can call on at a later time to repay his favour. Even though he’s been shunned by the Astronomers several decades ago, he is, along with the Master, the most powerful Earthling alive.
How do you know so much about magicians?
I spent my entire childhood learning about how to best serve them as an Astronomer. It was only when I was in my late teens that I realised that magicians never had any power. They are weak and exposed to their temperamental magic.
I figure it doesn’t take magic to be powerful. It takes understanding of the magic. Knowing why it does what it does.
Where did you get your staff from?
My staff was given to me by a dear friend of mine, Alexis, after I interrupted his daughter’s Shadow ceremony. Overnight, I became the prey of the people who once took me in and cared for me, the Astronomers.
Initially, the staff belonged to Alexis’s wife. It had been handed down to the firstborn child for generations. They used it as a congratulatory gift when a child received their Shadow. But this ended with Helena. So Alexis gave me the staff instead.
But isn’t it a magical staff?
I don’t think it is a magical staff, otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to operate it. It is a solid wooden staff with a large gem on top. Over time, I’ve been able to decipher its moods and messages. It has proven extremely helpful on many occasions.
I’m unsure why Helena’s family kept for so long an artefact they could never use or understand.
What is it that you desire?
I wish to get rid of the troubles. Magical troubles are happening everywhere for no obvious reason. Magicians and Earthlings alike are hurt, when they are not killed by magic running amok.
I don’t think those troubles are a side product of inexperience. I believe they are symptoms of a much more serious disease that has been taking over the magical world for a long, long time. I have made it my mission to eradicate this disease. That’s why I’ve been travelling through the world and learning about magic through any material I could find, material the Astronomers never put their hands on. There is a lot more to magic than what magicians are taught in Agrinion school.
